What Could It Be?: Exploring the Imaginative World of Shapes

Shapes are truly everywhere around us! A circle can be seen in the lenses on a pair of eyeglasses, but it can also be found in flowers, tomatoes, or even insects. A rectangle might be a toy box treasure chest, or maybe it’s part of a train or some furniture. What about triangles, or hexagons? Ally Fawcett’s picture book What Could it Be? challenges young readers to discover shapes in the world they live in. Each colorful, imaginative picture depicts a familiar-looking scene and asks children to find a specific shape hiding within. This book is obviously a bit educational, but the treasure-hunt aspect will appeal to young children and get them excited to think about shapes. This is a cute book that can take as long or as little time to go through as readers like, and chances are good that they’ll find new instances of each shape every time they look!
