Some Bright Morning, I’ll Fly Away: A Memoir

What gives some the resilience to survive one catastrophic event let alone many? This is an inspiring memoir, but hard to read because of all the painful incidents. The author describes herself as a “redemption addict.” She explains by saying that no matter how awful things are, she looks forward to her redemption.

The author survived childhood molestation, a brutal divorce, Hurricane Katrina, an horrendous accident and hard recovery, family court, criminal court, and a constant sense of menace from her ex-husband. These events create “scars” but do not define the author, who turns her scars into “chapels.” Yes, this author is a poet, and her language clearly demonstrates her command of the metaphor. As she survives and rebuilds from the hurricane, she also is able to rebuild her family life… It is a difficult book to read, and the author’s pain is on almost every page. Alice Anderson is a local writer who is clearly living her “happily ever after,” and there can be few more deserving of this redemption
