Armed in America: A History of Gun Rights from Colonial Militias to Concealed Carry
Gun rights are a big deal in today’s day and age. Whether you’re a proponent of gun rights or think they should be unequivocally banned, have you ever wondered just how America’s firearm relationship evolved to where it is today?
Armed in America by Patrick J. Charles examines how central gun-rights beliefs came to be and discusses how social, political, and legal understanding of the Second Amendment has changed throughout history. While you won’t find the answer to reducing gun violence within its pages, you’ll come away with a much deeper understanding of the issue at hand. Well researched and thorough, Armed in America offers a lot to well-read voters who wish to have a better understanding of the touchy subject of gun rights in modern America.
I picked up this book because my husband and I have very different views on gun rights, and I hoped to not only better understand his point of view, but also learn more about my own. Indeed, the book brought up quite a few points I had not considered. There is a definite pro-gun slant, but I think the author did a fine job of presenting all sides. My mind was not changed, though I do understand my husband’s philosophy more than I did before, even if I do not agree with him.
If you’re looking for a meticulously detailed history, well researched and cited, about the Second Amendment and the evolution of gun rights in America, this is the book for you. While not the most captivating read, it’s full of great information and well written. Just in time for the 2020 political season!
