This is the third book I’ve read by author Jo Spain and it did not disappoint. In Beneath The Surface, Inspector Tom Reynolds works with his team once again to find out who murdered the victim, in this case, Ryan Finnegan, a government official and assistant to Minister Aidan Blake. Blake and Finnegan did not always see eye-to-eye when it came to passing bills and other issues, but as Tom and his crew dig deeper, they realize there are more players in this game besides the most obvious ones. Jo Spain does an outstanding job of profiling each one of her characters for the reader. In each one of her Tom Reynolds books, she also includes the dynamics behind the relationships of Tom and his crew. It is always funny how female side-characters end up swooning over Ray, and while Ray is almost clueless when it comes to identifying this, his female companions are often left rolling their eyes at the puerile behavior of these women. As one government official after another and the head of a major oil company are interviewed, it seems as if someone, or many someones, are lying. Putting all of the clues together, it is a race against time as someone else may be the next victim. A very detailed read with lots of information to follow as the reader is taken through the story, this book is a must-read for fans of the genre of suspense and government corruption.
