Please join us for an evening to celebrate literacy and education with James. J Owens ’94, Founder and CEO, The World is Just a Book Away. Mr. Owens was the first recipient of the Chazen Institute Scholarship awarded in 1992, and currently is associate professor at the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business.

The World is Just a Book Away (WIJABA) is a non-profit organization that empowers children to change their own lives and communities through books, libraries, and educational programs.

The World is Just a Book Away is an anthology edited by James J. Owens that captures the stories of how books and reading inspired some of the world’s most prominent people. Featuring personal stories from five Nobel Peace Prize laureates, actors, royalty, world leaders, scientists, humanitarians, and many more.

This event will be moderated by Bruce Usher, The Elizabeth B. Strickler ’86 and Mark T. Gallogly ’86 Faculty Director of the Social Enterprise Program at Columbia Business School.

All proceeds from the sale of this book benefit the charity’s mission to break the chain of illiteracy and poverty by building libraries and launching educational programs for children around the globe.

Pre-reception: 6:00 p.m.
Discussion and Q&A: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Post-reception and signing: 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.
