101 Kitchen Secrets: Cut Down on Dishes, Cost, and Time in the Kitchen
This book is intended to provide tips for saving resources during meal preparation. The book is divided into three parts: save dishes, save money, and save time. Each “secret” takes one 5×7 page and is only a couple of sentences. Everything is written in uppercase, and there are no pictures or illustrations. There is no detailed table of contents, or index making referencing difficult.
Some of these “secrets” are common sense practices that most people with a couple years of casual food prep experience will implement (such as using a rolling pin to squeeze more out of tube). Some of the “secrets” sacrifice taste for efficiency. Some are harder to understand (such as using an apple corer to cut fries, I envisioned using a circular tube to peel a potato). Some are dangerous (such as holding a paper towel with tongs over a pan and tilting the pan to drain fat).
It seems that the book is targeted to those who are just getting started with meal preparation (e.g., college students of young professionals who have not had prior food preparation experience). While the hacks are generally useful, the book is difficult to use as it lacks an index or an extended table of contents.
