One hundred and fifty years ago, Margaret Harlowe lived with her family in New England. She always knew she was different than others, and it didn’t take long for her to discover her powers. Despite rumors of being a witch, she falls in love, only to realize that things aren’t what they seem and that things won’t end well for her. Then she simply disappears from history, almost like she was never there.

Augusta takes a job at Harlowe house, which in the present day has been turned into a historical museum. Augusta is immediately drawn to Margaret’s story and sets out to find everything she can. A Lullaby for Witches is calling to Augusta, and unless she can fight its power, she might disappear herself.

This is a beautifully written story about two women, both powerful and weak in their own ways, trying to find justice and happiness. While it is a story about witches, the magic is so subtle, and you realize it’s more a story about the women than about their power. History is woven throughout the story, reinforcing the idea that you can’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been. This is perfect for those who love historical fiction.
