All Her Little Secrets: A Novel
Ellice has a great job as a corporate attorney for a transportation company in Atlanta. Then, one day, she finds her boss dead in his office. Instead of reporting it, she heads back down to her office and pretends to know nothing about it. Why would she behave in such a way? Well, for one thing, she was having an affair with the boss, which would definitely make her a suspect. For another, she has a brother who’s been to jail as well as her own shady past that no one at work knows about. When Ellice almost immediately gets promoted to replace her boss, she discovers the company is doing its own shady things, and unless she helps, those in charge will reveal all her secrets.
I don’t normally go in for corporate law stories, but this one was a fantastic exception. It is full of drama, intrigue, and racial tension. Ellice is a wonderful character who is both smart and clever, in addition to being exceptional at solving problems in her own way. Her past has clearly shaped her, but it doesn’t define her. If you enjoy legal thrillers, you should definitely add this book to your reading list, but I would recommend it even if you don’t generally read such books. It’s well worth your time.
