Alter Ego
Brian Freeman dives into the dark side of Hollywood with Alter Ego–money, power, crime.
Jonathan Stride is a Duluth police detective, and his biggest case is being made into a movie. Stride is played by America’s favorite actor, Dean Casperson. While Stride investigates a missing intern from the movie set, all kinds of secrets begin to unfold. Is Dean Casperson the beloved husband and actor he portrays to the media?
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great mystery. Freeman is a talented author; several mysteries are unfolding in Alter Ego. The reader gets a look into Stride’s past as Freeman explores how a few of his most complex cases have affected his current mindset. The reader can also see Stride’s failures. He is not made out to be the perfect man, cop, or husband–he’s human. I also like that the reader gets to know Stride’s family: his wife, Serena, his adopted daughter, Cat, and his partner on the force, Maggie Bei. Again, several different mysteries are developing throughout the book. There is one character who has committed several crimes. Once other things start to unfold, it seems Freeman lets that part of the investigation go. I would have liked to know more about this guy, but then again, it’s probably realistic to have some “loose ends” after a case is “closed.”
