Bad Neighbors: An Agnes and Effie Mystery

It’s fall in upstate New York, and in Naneda, a postcard-idyllic small town, the fall festival season is swinging into high gear. Agnes Blythe—who’s helping her Aunt Effie restore the historic Stagecoach Inn—is looking forward to the festivities; that is, until a local mechanic is found bludgeoned to death. Now Agnes and Aunt Effie are on the case—Agnes, because she’s determined to clear her maybe-boyfriend, Otis, of all suspicion, and Aunt Effie, because it all just sounds like a load of fun. But the killer isn’t stopping at Mikey, and time is quickly running out.

You have to be in the right mindset before picking up Bad Neighbors, otherwise you might not be able to really enjoy the admittedly reality-challenged and exposition-heavy series of events that make up the links in this story’s chain, but the good news is that if you are in the right mindset, then Bad Neighbors is a super fun read. There’s no hard-boiled P.I.’s to be seen, but between them, Agnes and Aunt Effie make a sharp (and always glamorous!) team of sleuthing prowess, and you keep reading just to see what happens next.
