Bear for a Day

“Ahem. If I were a bear for a day…” this cute story begins. The reader doesn’t know who is telling the story, but it certainly is someone who has quite an imagination, because this is a bear that sleeps in a bed, does calisthenics, and wears blue jeans and a plaid shirt. And whoever is telling the story is being interrupted for questions. But back to the bear. This bear eats breakfast, hums a tune, and is friends with a mouse. That isn’t all. This bear rides a motorcycle. He rides through town looking for his friend Mouse, but all he sees are other animals. He stops for lunch, has some pictures taken, and finally rescues Mouse. What a day! But who is telling this story?

Corey R. Tabor is both author and illustrator of this book. He has quite a sense of silliness that will have young readers or listeners giggling all the way through. The illustrations are all from the bear’s point of view, so readers see whatever he sees. It’s very clever and fun. There are plenty of silly details on every page to help keep youngsters engaged. It has a great twist. Kids will love it.
