Becoming My Sister
I grew up reading V.C. Andrews books and was very excited to receive a copy of Becoming My Sister. Although Virginia Andrews passed on many years ago, her family has worked carefully to create stories that are inspired by her. Becoming My Sister follows the two John girls, Gloria and Gish, Gloria being only one year older than Gish. Gloria ends up raising Gish, taking her under her wing throughout their childhood and into their teen years. Their parents are quite odd and do not have much involvement with the girls other than to reprimand them. In fact, Mother has a very creepy vibe to her even though this book is written in current times. For most of the book, Gish follows Gloria around like a shadow. They even go on dates with boys together. Gloria is extremely intelligent and wise and everyone loves her. Gish also loves Gloria but is jealous of her as well. Then Gloria disappears. This happens in the very last part of the book and was so shocking. It was so abrupt and everything after that happened really fast. This story is excellent but I would have loved a longer ending telling readers more about Gish as an adult.
