Cry Havoc: A Novel
Ida Campbell’s young life is falling apart. She has become a pariah in her community—and worst of all in her school. She feels trapped, but she figures out a way out of her home, school, and town. In common parlance, Ida does a “geographic”. She searches out a remote English boarding school on the edge of the sea. But it seems trouble is never very far away from Ida. It is not bad enough that Ida is made to share a room with a strange girl who is an outcast at the school and seems dangerous. After an elderly teacher dies, a male teacher replaces her. This teacher may not be what he seems. Soon, the girls at the school begin to suffer from strange and puzzling ailments.
Among this cast of strange characters, the school’s geography teacher, Eleanor, has been jilted by her fiancé. She begins to wonder if a lifetime of unfulfilling work at a girl’s boarding school is an unrelenting commitment. This is a suspenseful and well-told tale. A great and fun read.
