Carrie Singleton is determined to make her best friend’s wedding go off without a hitch. Unfortunately, Angela’s big day is full of hitches that have her believing her big day is cursed. It doesn’t help when Angela’s family arrives bringing their gossip with them. When her cousin’s husband dies during the reception, all suspicion falls onto Angela’s brother. Carrie digs her way through family drama as she searches for the killer but when another cousin dies, she wonders if she can catch the killer before the killer catches her.

The story revolves around the family of Angela with her wedding being a central focus of the plot and the setting for her family drama to be exposed, along with the perfect background for murder to occur. Two plots run throughout the story as Carrie investigates the murder and Evelyn’s request to find her brother. The two stories come together with a surprising twist at the end. The plot is grounded in reality with ghostly undertones thanks to the presence of Evelyn who can only be seen by Carrie (and a four-year-old girl). Allison Brook perfectly weaves two plots throughout Death on the Shelf and draws them together in an unexpected way with charming characters, an idealistic setting, and a killer reveal that you won’t see coming.
