Desperation in Death: An Eve Dallas Novel (In Death, 55)
J.D. Robb does it again in another Eve Dallas thriller. Thirteen-year-olds Dorian and Mina created a pact and were able to navigate the system to finally escape the evil people at the Academy, a place where they groom young girls to be sold to wealthy buyers for everything from domestic slavery to sex slavery. When Mina is found dead with a wood stake in her chest, and Dorian’s blood is found on her, Lieutenant Dallas knows something sinister is behind it. Dorian is a runaway who comes from an abusive household, and Mina is a girl with a loving family. What could these girls have in common? They are both beautiful, and they are both virgins.
I didn’t realize until a little way into this book that it takes place in the future, in the year 2060. Sodas come in tubes, coffee is made in a special machine called an AutoChef, and what I am assuming is the cell phone of the future is called a ‘link. Overall, this is a very well-written story. Dallas and her team put the clues together, and as they get closer to finding out who is behind the Academy, there are some great action scenes, which make the book’s climax extremely exciting. Engaging and fast-paced, this is an excellent read for fans of thriller and suspense novels.
