Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor Vol 1 – Terrorformer
The Doctor has regenerated once again, and now as curmudgeonly and clever as ever, he roams the universe with his companion Clara, exploring, marvelling, and quite often, saving people. When the Doctor and Clara find themselves on a terraformed planet with a mind of its own, they must confront an unexpected threat from the distant past of the Time Lords. And later, they launch themselves into Earth’s future to do battle with cultists hoping to subjugate twenty-fourth-century India with an ancient evil.
The Twelfth Doctor has quickly become a favorite of mine, and Morrison and Taylor capture him brilliantly in Terrorformer, the first volume of his new adventures. This Doctor is as funny, as quick-witted, and as dashing as Capaldi’s (although he seems to have lost of a bit of his acerbic bite); nonetheless, he’s thoroughly entertaining and immensely capable.
These two adventures also show great imagination, avoiding delving too deep into the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey storytelling that many of the other Expanded Universe tales thrive on. These are relatively straightforward adventures that mix grand set pieces with topnotch dialogue. What fun.
