Roger Ferris is a ninety-one-year-old industrialist battling his children for control of his empire. However, the spoiled heirs are not the reason he requested the services of Joe Oliver. Ferris wants Joe to investigate the case of Alexander Xavier Quiller. A one-time hero of the “Alt-Right,” Quiller is incarcerated in Rikers Island and facing multiple charges, including murder. Joe wants to help Ferris, but Joe’s past travails have him leery of jail cells. Upon meeting Quiller and discussing his predicament, Joe is drawn into further investigating.

As Joe begins to delve into the Quiller case, Joe’s ex-wife pleads with him to help her current husband, who has been arrested on charges relating to a tax fraud scheme. Joe’s plate is beginning to get full, but his loyalties preclude him from dropping either case. As both cases begin to become more complex, Joe will need some allies to provide cover.

Every Man a King is the latest spellbinding mystery from the virtuoso Walter Mosley (Blood Grove). Joe “King” Oliver is the newest character created by Mosley that possesses a perfect combination of gravitas and humor. The pacing of the story moves along with precision and surprising twists, making for a superb novel.
