Every Tool’s a Hammer: Life Is What You Make It
Adam Savage is known as the charming, manic side of the iconic MythBusters duo, but if all you know is the host side of Savage, you have been missing out. Adam is also a craftsman, an apt storyteller, and an advocate for creative expression. And Every Tool’s a Hammer is your window into his world.
It’s hard to describe this book, since it’s part autobiography, part self-help book, and part guidebook to visualizing, starting, and completing creative projects. Adam walks us through hard-won lessons in both life and his craft, sharing victories, missteps, and the best of both that he carries with him.
And even when the book segues into less-fun moments— failures, or humbling experiences— it doesn’t detract one iota from the joy expressed throughout. This is about the joy of creating, the joy in finding something you love to do, and the joy of getting better at it, even if it takes decades to do so.
Every Tool’s a Hammer is every bit as heartfelt, sincere, funny, and inspiring as you’d hope. Whenever I get discouraged, I’ll definitely return to this one to recharge and refocus. And for advice. OH, and for some of the hilarious anecdotes.
Drat, I better just make a permanent place for it on the nightstand right now.
