FLEE (A NomaD Thriller Book 2)

A new disease called RF-51 was tearing the world apart. Scientists had not been able to trace the cause, the mode of transmission, or even a potential cure. People who had the illness were called redheads due to the characteristic discoloration of the skin caused by the disease. The infected people had an estimated lifespan of fifty-one days. Claire, a high-profile sniper, didn’t expect that she would be one of the victims of RF-51. At the age of twenty-four, she already had a successful career and was the head of a multibillion-dollar foundation.
With Damon by her side, they flee the country in search of a cure before time runs out. With motorbikes as their means of transportation, they overcome difficult challenges in trying to escape. The travel restrictions were stricter than before to prevent the infected people from traveling and contaminating other people. Claire is in hiding, and Damon is knocking on all doors in search of the latest scientific findings that would lead him to the cure.
On the other hand, Jonny is an ambitious journalist looking for his next big story. He is keen on the mysterious death of General Williams. He is doubtful of the information put out by the media. A foundation was set up in honor of the man. It was the same foundation owned by Claire, the Williams Foundation. Their mission was to remove all landmines from the earth. Is Jonny prepared for the truth, and what part will he play in the conspiracies?
Damon is a courageous and smart man. I admire his devotion to Claire and his several attempts to save her life. The book sheds light on human behavior during a pandemic. There’s a lot to learn from the way the infected were handled, the discrimination, and the extortion. The scenario of the pandemic in this novel is similar to that of COVID-19. In times of a pandemic, the pressure is mostly on the government and scientists. They must do everything to end the people’s pain, as they are their last hope. There are usually so many conspiracy theories and propaganda that it’s hard to know what to believe.
The suspense and action in this book make it an engrossing read. The characters, while quite a lot of them were distinct and relatable, often had little to no background story. The plot was fast-paced and intriguing. I would recommend FLEE by Joe Klingler to fans of thrillers and action-packed novels.
