Gothictown
The pandemic killed Billie Hope’s thriving restaurant, and so she lives in a cramped apartment in New York City with her husband and daughter, just waiting for a change. It comes in the form of an email from a small town in Georgia with the claim that she can buy a beautiful home for a hundred dollars and a grant to open a new restaurant. It sounds too good to be true, but everything seems legit. Billie packs up her life and moves to Juliana, only to have things take a turn for the strange not soon after. They all begin having weird dreams, taking a toll on her marriage. This Gothictown, full of the Old Guard, has secrets buried that they don’t want anyone to find. Once Billie finds them, she’ll be staying forever, one way or another.
Much of this story reminded me of a mixture of Stepford Wives and Hot Fuzz, but in a less funny way. The story was fine but not particularly attention-grabbing. I found the suspense and horror a little lacking. If you want something to fill your time, this is ok.
