Happy Toby: Toby Has A Party

We rated this book:

Happy Toby: Toby Has a Party is a children’s picture book about Toby and his friend Marty, who decide to throw a backyard party for their parents. The story is best read aloud to your young child, the prose naturally coming out as a song. Toby and Marty put a great deal of effort into their party plans – from preparing foods to barbeque to hand-made decorations. They even put up a tent in the backyard. Even their pet cat and dog get into the planning. When Marty’s parents arrive, they sure are surprised. Marty’s dad brings his ukulele to add some music to the festivities. The adults man the barbeque, grilling all of the food that Marty and Toby prepared. Everyone enjoys themselves as they watch the sunset and the stars come out. The little kids climb into the tent and fall fast asleep after this fun day!

Author Josef Krivicka has penned two books in the Toby series. I found this one to be beautifully illustrated by Marek Mertinko – the cover immediately catching my eye on the bookshelf. The interior images are equally nicely illustrated and very detailed, inviting your child to seek out everything that is happening on each page. The text is large and doesn’t interfere with the illustrations. Can’t wait to see what Krivicka has up his sleeve for the next book in the Toby series!
