Hello, Sunshine
Things are not going as planned for 18-year-old Becca Harrington. After graduating from high school, she has the unpleasant distinction of having been rejected from every single college she applied to. While all of her friends are leaving town for college, she decides to road trip from Boston to LA with her boyfriend, Alex. Alex will continue on to Stanford University while Becca will stay with a cousin in LA and try to start up an acting career. Becca is sure she’s going to make it, but when Alex dumps her at the curb of her cousin’s house, she doesn’t know what she’s going to do anymore. Does anyone have faith in her?
This delightful book has incredible characters and a fun plotline. Who doesn’t wonder, at least a little, what actors have to go through to land that big break? Becca is appropriately naïve, but she also has drive, determination, and a strong likability that gives this book crossover appeal. She tries hard to achieve her goals, and she meets some fantastic new friends along the way. Besides being fun, this book has a wonderful message about staying true to oneself and forging the right path regardless of the expectations of others.
