House of a Thousand Lies: A Novel
Diana and Thad Wolf and their two sons live in the House of a Thousand Lies. It is a house where they pretend to have the perfect life, which is easy to do when you’re rich, but when Diana drunkenly hires Kerry Perkins to map their estate, the perfectly built façade will begin to crumble. Kerry stumbles over a skull with two wolves carved into the forehead and Diana has to come face to face with the thousands of lies she’s told to others and herself for years. Something is wrong with her family and it’s just going to get worse once the walls come down.
There are no happy endings here. This was dark and gritty, but an exceptional example of the ability of the human mind to lie so well to itself that it begins to believe its own lies. I finished this book with more questions than answers, and if I didn’t recognize this as fiction, I would definitely be afraid to be anywhere by myself. I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it, but I look forward to more from Cody Luke Davis.
