How Freaking Romantic: A Novel

How Freaking Romantic follows Bea, a law student, and Nathan Asher, a divorce lawyer. Bea is known for speaking her mind and loves fiercely, so during the divorce of two of Bea’s best friends, she gives Nathan a large piece of her mind about how she feels about it and his involvement as the lawyer. What begins as a single, albeit embarrassing, event turns into a daily run-in when Nathan fills in for Bea’s professor, forcing them to meet more often than she’d like. Is it safe to develop feelings for the enemy?

In “Rom-Com” fashion, this story is “enemies” to lovers, with an incredibly slow burn throughout. The spice rating would be 3-4 peppers. How Freaking Romantic wrecked me – I experienced all the feelings at some point, yet the fluid and engaging writing kept me going, even when other emotions felt stronger. Many situations in the story felt nearly too real – it covers a wide range of circumstances that work together to provide the happy ending it deserves. My take from the story is that therapy can be helpful for everyone.
