How NOT to Make a Jelly Sandwich by Ross Burach

Frankie is a girl with her own unique way of doing things, and making a jelly sandwich is no exception. In five simple steps, Frankie finds the most delightfully creative ways to assemble and construct her sandwich. For example, Frankie dresses as a duck, complete with an orange traffic cone for a beak, and gets bread from the lady in the park feeding ducks in a pond. Later, Frankie cuts her sandwich by training hamsters to ride unicycles across the sandwich. No approach is to silly for Frankie!

Ross Burach has written a truly silly book that will have little listeners laughing at Frankie’s antics. At the same time, however, Burach is teaching a valuable lesson about the value of thinking in new and different ways and finding joy in doing so. Burach even encourages his readers to think of their own unique ways to make a sandwich, wrap a present, and clean their room, among other activities. In this way, the silliness and creativity may continue well beyond the story, and that would be a wonderful thing.
