How to Think Like a Cat
“Do cats worry about retirement? Nope. Do cats do things they don’t want to do? Definitely not. Do cats rush around at all hours of the day when they’d rather be licking their paws and looking out a window? Please.” Stéphane Garnier’s novel, How to Think Like a Cat is a charming, tongue-in-cheek self-help book for all of us. The author includes such chapters as “Your Cat is Impenetrable to Judgement,” in which he relates that a cat doesn’t care a jot for what others think of him and continues to be true to himself. Living in a house with five cats, I can wholeheartedly concur with his sentiment. My cats have very individual personalities and traits and never compromise themselves.
Garnier also includes nine chapters titled “Your Cat’s Day.” In these sections, we follow the cat through his day, starting with 7:30 when the alarm rings and continuing until 11:00 when the cat is dreaming, all the while getting advice concerning how we should learn to live more like our feline friends.
At the end of the book, the author includes a test to assess how like a cat you are. Your results tell you just how much work you have to do obtain a truly serene life–just like your cat!
Garnier uses his cat, Ziggy, to create an insightful and humorous self-help book with easily applicable tips that can truly change your life. Or, at the very least, help you understand your cat a bit better.
