Hunting Hour: A Timber Creek K-9 Mystery
Hunting Hour originally caught my attention because it included Robo, the K9 officer. I have a German Shepherd myself, so reading about the main character, Mattie Cobbs, and her bond with her K9 partner, Robo, was relatable and engaging. Margaret Mizushima does a fantastic job creating a connection between the reader and the characters. When one of the book’s characters goes missing, I became personally invested in the story, sympathizing with Mattie’s desperation to have the investigation solved. In this “time is of the essence” type of investigation, the suspense is definitely not lacking. I couldn’t put the book down because of the race to find the missing person and the person responsible before it it was too late. I had to know who did it, and I had to know if she was okay. The conclusion to the investigation is somber yet satisfying, and the relationship that blossoms during this emotional investigation is compelling enough to keep me reading this series to find out more.
