I Like the Wind (I Like the Weather)
Part of the I Like the Weather series from Barefoot Books, I Like the Wind shares the delights that windy weather brings. Accompanied by art in bright acrylics, rhyming couplets describe wind’s many actions and how it interplays children’s daily activities.
I appreciated how demonstratively excited the children were about the wind on each page. As a society, we seem to have less and less tolerance for sending children outside in anything less than perfect weather, so it’s nice to have a book featuring the positives of different weather.
When reading the story aloud I realized certain words mimic the sound of the wind which I thought was a clever touch.
I didn’t know there were so many ways to talk about wind- and I give the author credit for using such descriptive words, this story definitely helped me think about wind in new ways.
While it wasn’t explicitly described, the story appeared to feature children of all different backgrounds and ethnicities. It would have been great to feature the words for wind from different languages and show various places throughout the world.
