It’s All Fun and Games

Allison’s best friend, TJ, is obsessed with role playing games. Allison would much rather practice ballet than roll a bunch of weird shaped dice in a fighting adventure—and forget about dressing up in costume for some live action role play (LARP) in the woods. But TJ knows about her crush on Simon Williams—currently a hot-shot football player, but a previously geeky gamer, who wants one final LARP session before football season. So Allison puts together a costume and joins TJ, Simon, and their party of adventurers for the long weekend. It turns out to be a lot more fun than she’d expected…at least until the adventure becomes all too real.

This is a fun adventure story with some wish fulfillment for those of us gaming nerds who always wanted to escape into the world of the game (or the story or any other world, really). Like a lot of newer fiction, this book is just the beginning of the story. We’ll have to wait for future titles to see how the party fares. The plot is pretty straightforward, so if you’re looking for the intricate details of epic fantasy, then this is probably not for you, but it does make for an enjoyable light afternoon read.
