Set in the small town of Plumpton, Texas, podcaster Ben Owens is investigating the death of an adored young woman named Saavy. Her best friend Lucy is the main suspect, but she can’t remember anything about that night. Told from Lucy’s perspective accompanied by snippets from the podcast, we learn that Saavy’s friends know more about her death than they initially let on.
The format of Listen for the Lie was a fun one! Its short chapters made it easy to fly through, and I read it in just two days. Lucy is a sarcastic main character who escaped her small hometown to get out of the limelight as Saavy’s suspected murderer. The details of the night are fuzzy, and the police didn’t have any evidence to try her for the murder. Lucy knows that she couldn’t have killed her best friend, yet everyone’s suspicions of her make her second guess herself.

I enjoyed this thriller and found it hard to put down. The ending left me with a few questions, but otherwise, it kept me engaged and was easy to keep reading. The characters constantly backstabbed one another, yet this added to the mystery of who killed Saavy!
