London On My Mind

Dreams of a trip to London with Dayana’s mom evaporate when her mom dies. To make it easier on her grandparents, Day offers to leave Rio and go to London to live with her father whom she hasn’t seen in years. Tension is thick among them, especially with the stepmom and stepsister, who her father chose over her and her mother.

On a night out, Day literally runs into Diana, who was escaping Buckingham Palace by going over the fence. There starts a whirlwind romance with picnics, site seeing, and more. Day knows Diana is keeping something secret, but Day is willing to give space. In a moment of sisterly camaraderie, Day shares the secret with her stepsister. Then the secret is out, and Diana is done with her. The only thing for Day to do is to run back to Rio and admit failure.

This sapphic romance is youngish, and Day, having suffered traumatic experience after traumatic experience, is rather immature. She lashes out and runs away, making her authentically teenaged. Some events are a little outrageous, but provide romantic moments that break up Day’s angsty outbursts, and the royalty part is a fun touch. Cute and quick.
