Four years have passed since Vera had her world upended, along with many others. May 23rd was supposed to be a day of celebration. Vera’s book was set to be published, and friends and family had gathered to show their love and support. Vera is well-versed in statistics and probability and has made it her life’s work. The events of May 23rd have called into question everything she thought she once knew. Facts, figures, and/or logic didn’t account for the day when fish begin to fall from the sky and you see a friend bludgeoned by a chimpanzee wielding a typewriter. The tragicomic events of the day have scarred Vera, and she has withdrawn from the world until the day she is sought out by Special Agent Layne, whose agency requires her assistance in understanding “Low Probability Events” such as May 23rd.

Chuck Tingle puts the macabre on full display in his latest novel, “Lucky Day”. The plot is both intelligent and engrossing, and the emotions are often as raw as the violence is vivid. Tingle integrates horror, dark humor, and drama, resulting in an unputdownable read.
