Modern Patchwork Home: Dynamic Quilts and Projects for Every Room
Quilting has been having quite a renaissance in the last several years. There are quilting shows around the country and quilting classes at nearly every fabric shop. But like anything else, with time comes change. The term âpatchwork quiltsâ brings to mind calico fabrics and patterns like Sunbonnet Sue or Wedding Ring. But modern patchwork quilt projects often use vibrant, rich colors and fabrics. The designs are modern, often geometrical, and look little like old-fashioned, traditional quilts.
The book opens with a section on techniques to make the fitted pieces to be used in the quilt projects. Twenty-four projects, about half of which are quilts, are presented with excellent instructions: finished size, materials, cutting directions, step-by-step assembly and finishing directions, instruction sketches, and beautiful photographs of the finished projects. In addition to the several quilt projects, there are book covers, tote bags, table runners, pillows, and more. There is even a yoga mat. This is a fun book with projects and patterns that will be perfect for those with a little experience, yet there are projects challenging enough for those who are quite experienced.
