Molten Death (An Orchid Isle Mystery)
Valerie and wife Kristen are in Hawaii for a vacation. They are staying with one of Kristen’s surfer friends Isaac hoping to catch some waves and learn more about Hawaii’s culture and cuisine. But when they visit a nearby volcano, Valerie is convinced she sees a body or part of a body being covered by flowing lava. The only problem is that no one else saw it. Nevertheless, Valerie can’t get the image of the dead body out of her mind, making her determined to investigate. But even she has to admit that it will be no easy task without a body or an identity. Plus she knows next to nothing about the area or its residents, but that isn’t about to stop her trying. Will she be able to solve a mystery, and enjoy her vacation?
Molten Death is a delightful read, full of Hawaiian charm. I love how the author brings so much cultural information to light throughout the story. And since Valeria is a retired caterer, many local dishes are showcased, with recipes included at the end of the book. I am hoping this turns into a new series so I can revisit these characters and settings soon.
