Murder Games

The number of books written or co-authored by James Patterson is mind-boggling. In Murder Games, he again collaborates with Howard Roughan to create a fast-paced story about a serial killer in New York City.

The first half of the book sufficiently introduces the reader to the characters but is formulaic in its description of the killer, who leaves a clue at each murder scene. The main characters rush from one crime scene to another as they attempt to stop the next murder.

Approximately two-thirds of the way through the book, patient readers will discover that the story comes to life and delivers a more nuanced read that is worthwhile.

The main characters are compelling. Dylan Reinhart, whose personal story is poignantly interwoven throughout the book as he and his partner tackle the adoption process, teams up with Elizabeth Needham, the detective in charge of the murder investigations. Together, they are a formidable force against the evil and persistent killer. The book is entertaining enough, but not one of the Patterson novels you can’t bear to put down until it’s finished.
