November Road: A Novel
Frank Guidry is a man who looks out for number one. He is an associate of New Orleans mob boss Carlos Marcello. Frank is a fixer, capable of getting things done, keeping the money flowing. His loyalties are limited to the best whiskey and the available one-night stand. Guidry’s picturesque existence is thrown askew after doing a favor for Marcello. The implications are unknown to Guidry until the events of November 22, 1963. Guidry has now abetted the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and he knows that his life is now worth little. His trip to get rid of the evidence only confirms this. Guidry runs. A psychotic assassin is soon called to take Guidry out. Guidry seeks a life raft and has reached out for one in Vegas. His journey is soon entangled with Charlotte, a young mother and housewife making an escape of her own. Their paths taken for different reasons, Frank and Charlotte soon develop a connection that is electric but could endanger everyone.
November Road is a powerful and moving tour de force of a read. The background of the assassination is not new ground, but the elements of the story and the characters inhabiting it far surpass expectations. The action and dialogue are captivating, leaving the reader with paper cuts from each quick page turn. One of the best of 2018!
