Old Macdino Had a Farm
Welcome to Old Macdino’s farm. It’s like every farm you’ve ever been to, except for one difference: it’s literally overrun with dinosaurs. What are the dinosaurs doing there? Do the farmers harvest their eggs like chicken eggs? What do farm-fresh cage-free organically-grown non-GMO dinosaur eggs go for these days?
Old Macdino Had a Farm answers none of these questions, but that’s okay because it’s an absolutely adorable and engaging read regardless. I mean, come on, a farm with all the usual trappings, plus dinosaurs? How can you go wrong?
The art is vivid and bright, and the dinosaurs are drawn so large compared to the other animals and people in every scene that you feel like a child yourself as you gaze across each page at their sheer immensity and ridiculousness. The depth of detail and texture also helps build the world in believable ways. Every farmer has mud on his overalls, the chicken eggs are speckled instead of plain old white, and every splash of water is sponge-painted to offer bubbles of white amidst the gentle blue. It’s immensely effective.
Oh, and the velociraptor herding sheep alongside a sheepdog was a nice touch.
