Once Upon An Apple Martini
In Once Upon an Apple Martini, Calyssa is a thirty-year-old secretary with an eclectic group of friends, a coworker she despises and a taste for apple martinis. When an office prank goes bad, she is summoned to the big bosss office when she returns to work on Monday. After a few apple martinis, a fish given to her as a gift and words of wisdom from a stripper, Calyssa decides to call on her boss, Adam, for help. When he says he cant return to the office from Hawaii by Monday, she takes matters into her own hands. Her original plans of going to Las Vegas with her friends Chloe and Natalia (who is paying) go out the window when Calyssa takes advantage of Natalia being passed out drunk and changes their tickets from Vegas to Hawaii and adds an additional ticket for her new stripper friend, Lindsey. Once in Hawaii, things go from bad to worse as people sober up, plans dont go as expected, and wallets and IDs go missing. Friendships are tested, strained, and proven as Calyssa learns that wisdom can come from the unlikeliest of places and that choices are not always thrust upon you, but are the result of your own decisions.
Once Upon an Apple Martini is an entertaining combination of Bridget Jones Diary, Sex in the City, and The Hangover all rolled into one. The characters each have their own back story that is blended seamlessly into the story and touch on issues that people (men and women) experience in their professional and personal lives. Once Upon an Apple Martini is for the modern woman, and Taylor has written a book that is serious, heartfelt, hilarious, and not afraid to tell it like it is. A great book for anyone looking to escape or laugh at real life.
