Ryuko
This manga features the Yakuza, Japan’s infamous mafia, and their violent ways. The first part is set in a prototypical Arab nation resides Ryuko with her Yakuza family as they run things behind the scenes. Living under her protection is Sasori and Valer, the daughter of the dead king who handed young Valer off to the Yakuza for protection. Now the countries military is staging a coup against Ryuko and now they must escape back from Japan and in the process, Ryuko learns some shocking truths about her mother whom she thought was dead. There is also a side story that takes place during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan that feels out of place.
It can be difficult to depict action sequences in graphic novels/manga, but this is one of the worst ones. It is pretty much impossible to follow and find out what is really happening. The artwork overall is heavy and really dark and often the characters are drawn in such a way that it is hard to tell who is who and why should you care as well. The side story in Afghanistan is confusing and disrupts what little plot there is to begin with.
