Song of the River
Cam and his grandfather live in a cabin high on a mountain. Cam often says he wishes he could see the sea, and his grandfather always responds that someday they will go there. But that day doesn’t come soon enough to suit young Cam. One day, as spring arrives and the snow begins to melt, a trickle of water sings to him to come along and it will take him to the sea. That trickle joins other trickles and becomes a creek, still singing for him to come along to the sea. The creek becomes a stream, and then a river, traveling through towns and carrying boats. Cam follows along, seeing the world, all the way to the sea, before returning home to tell his grandfather all about it.
This is a charming story of adventure and learning that will fascinate little ones. The writing is lovely and lyrical, and the story will invite youngsters to expand their thinking and hopefully give them a sense of adventure. The enchanting illustrations in soft, quiet colors have plenty of sweet details to keep little eyes searching the pages. This is a perfect book to read aloud and will fast become a favorite.
