Spectacle Vol. 1
Spectacle uses a dreamlike art style to tell the story of Anna and her twin sister, Kat, both part of the traveling ensemble called the Samson Brother Circus. Everything changes for Anna when she discovers Kat murdered in their shared train car. As Anna begins trying to hunt down the killer, she discovers that she can see and talk to Kat’s spirit. And now that the twins now share a single body, their different personalities and experiences soon clash, to entertaining effect.
Spectacle is a fun, phantasmal blend of ghost story and whodunit. The mystery of the killer’s identity and the desire to understand Anna’s newfound power–if that’s what it is–keeps the story tripping along, and the curious personalities of the various members of the Samson Brothers Circus add an additional layer of unexpected intrigue. Murder mysteries aren’t really my schtick, so even though the story is well done, murder mysteries always leave me somewhat…meh. BUT the volume ends on a cliffhanger–and I absolutely still want to know what happens next.
