The #1 Lawyer: He’s America’s Best Lawyer Until He’s Its #1 Murder Suspect
The #1 Lawyer by James Patterson and Nancy Allen, tells the story of a Biloxi attorney named Stafford Lee Penney. When Penney is hired to prove a man named Daniel Caro innocent of the murder charges he is up for. Stafford Lee wins the case and everyone including the man’s mobster father is thankful. The first part is about this case and how Penney has never lost a case. Soon after, Penney’s wife is murdered and Penney goes on a downward spiral. His partners Jenny and Mason do an intervention and send him to rehab. The book takes a turn when Stafford Lee is then arrested for the murder of his wife. Can he stay off the drink and get strong enough to win his own case?
This book has several parts to it with many ups and downs. I enjoyed the main character’s persona the plot became very convoluted. The twists and turns were very unrealistic and I was left asking why. The book drags on for a while until a conclusion is reached. Although a good read, it’s not Patterson’s best.
