The Book of Hugs
Do you like giving or receiving hugs? How should you hug someone? Do you need to ask first? These questions and more are answered in The Book of Hugs. The text is well written. It was a little wordy for a picture book. The book seemed more like a how-to book instead of what I expected it to be. The explanations are well done especially for kids who probably haven’t hugged someone in a long time since the pandemic. The illustrations had a lot of white space. The artist made it all about the characters with minimal props and no background. While it’s a style choice it’s just not my favorite when this is done to every page. I think this would be a great book for a teacher or parent to read in school for kids to interact with others. I liked the book, but it wasn’t my favorite hug book. As a person that loves hugs myself, I do try to follow the hug rules of asking, unless I know the person very well. I would recommend it for three to eight-year-olds.
