The Deep State: The Fall of the Constitution and the Rise of a Shadow Government
The Deep State by Mike Lofgren is a biased look at some of the underpinnings of our nation. The Deep State itself, includes the national security agencies allied with Silicon Valley interests, the military industrial procurement complex and contract mercenaries of all sort, shadowy and compromised judiciary members, Wall Street manipulators, and rapacious Congressmen and unregulated regulators. Unfortunately, his liberal bias leaps from the pages. In his opinion Republicans are bad, and even worse, they corrupt the quick learning, honest Democrats. The double standard in treatment amounts to glossing over the half of history Democrats were in power and blaming all problems on Republicans. His one-sided analysis undermines his points even when they sound accurate. The idea that Money is the new god, or that the Deep State is plundering the wealth and will of the populace is not new, and the author makes some good points, in looking at the motivations of the Deep State over the past fifty years.
However, his documentation is from liberal sources, he uses personal quotes as facts and he never seems to look at both sides. By the end of the book he reads like fifty years of democrat talking points. The nation needs more serious solutions to its problems than another rehash of liberal cocktail party blather.
