Reportedly, the United States Congress suffers from a sixteen percent approval rating, yet members continue to be re-elected. Perhaps, voters suffer along with me in not realizing the true extent of graft, money and shady deal-making which comprise the life of an individual in Congress. This book is clear that rather than represent the wishes of the voters, national elected officials are in it for and about the money. One only has to look at the wealth gain of Speaker McConnell to realize that his salary has not accounted for his accumulation of a massive fortune. However, rather than a partisan approach, the authors make it clear that both parties indulge in full-time fundraising at the expense of their electorate. The DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) and the NRCC, multi-million-dollar non-profit enterprises, are nothing more than clearing houses for cash.

Speaker McConnell’s one over-riding ambition was to pack the courts with lifetime appointments which would change the legal system in the United States. For the most part, this is “mission accomplished”.

The tax rate for millionaires is another cause which is important for Congress in order to repay their cash funders. This is also fait accompli. This is an important book to read regardless of party affiliation.
