The Last Legacy: A Novel
Adrienne Young has created a world reminiscent of Peaky Blinders meets Great Expectations, with vivid imagery, casual violence, and rich anti-hero characters. Orphaned at a young age during a heist gone wrong, Bryn is sent away to live with her tenacious great-aunt. There she spends her formidable years being molded into the perfect tool to help her family make the jump from illegal underworld merchants to elite gem guild members. On her eighteenth birthday, she receives a summons from her uncle, the Roth family patriarch, saying that it’s time to return home and find her place in the family.
Plunged into a world of secrets and tangled histories, Bryn desperately tries to figure out the game each player has set in motion before the precarious house of cards come tumbling down. The unexpected twists and turns never allow Bryn, or the reader, to find an even footing, which creates a dark tension as the story progresses. Loyalty is constantly tested, but you begin to question who this benefits most. Through various missteps Bryn learns that in the Roth family, your destiny isn’t given, it must be taken.
