The Matchmaker: A Spy in Berlin

Anne Simpson’s world is about to be upended, and it starts with a visit from a stranger. Anne lives in Berlin with her husband, Stefan. Stefan is a piano tuner, his work frequently takes him out of town. The stranger is a Consular Officer named Cooper. He informs Anne that Stefan is missing. As Anne processes this, news coverage alludes to Stefan being dead, possibly murdered. A visit by the BND quickly devolves into an interrogation. In 1989 Berlin, the dominant specter of Communism has begun to wane, and change is on the horizon. However, Stefan is a target, as there has been something he hasn’t told Anne. The police are content to inform Anne that Stefan was a Spy for the Stasi. Anne is stuck in the middle, her guilt by association and her own actions could lead to a hard time. Unless she helps find The Matchmaker.
