The Murder at World’s End: A Gripping Locked-Room Murder Mystery where an Unlikely Duo must Unravel the Truth (Stockingham & Pike, 1)
In Cornwall, in 1910, the Viscount of Tithe Hall is preparing for the end of the world. Halley’s Comet is about to pass overhead and he is sure that nothing will survive unless everyone in the Hall seals themselves in their rooms, ready to surface once all the dangerous gases have cleared. Circumstances change in the morning, when it turns out the world didn’t end and the Viscount is found murdered in his sealed room. The newest servant Stephen Pike is blamed immediately, since he recently got out of prison. He teams up with the Viscount’s foul-mouthed aunt in order to solve The Murder at World’s End.
I loved the dynamic between Stephen and Decima. You can clearly see that these two people need each other and compliment each other well. The author did a wonderful job showing what it was like during that time when people claiming to be scientists made people sure that the world wouldn’t survive the comet, although it had passed by many times before. If you enjoy murder mysteries, especially those written in this time period, this is for you. I hope there are more stories to come.
