The Neighbors We Want: A Novel
The Neighbors We Want is about a man named Adam Cooper and his wife named Sarah and the people who come into their lives creating a tangled web of relationships. Adam is a stay-at-home dad and Sarah is a teacher. Adam sees his neighbor Ali in the window one night and starts a flirtation with her and starts becoming a bit obsessed with her. Meanwhile, a man named Crispin Kemp is dating Ali but has also had other relationships with women and his mother Evie is Sarah Cooper’s boss at the local school.
This story is so twisted and convoluted because the author writes from the points of view of each character but some of the information is so vague the reader is left assuming one thing while the author is actually describing something else. The writing is messy and confusing and the storyline falls flat. None of the characters are likable at all as they are each in their own selfish world. There is cheating, lying, and murder, but none of these topics are surprising as they come up in the book. Unfortunately, this book falls flat in all areas and is rather unsatisfactory.
