The Right to Remain by James Grippando

James Grippando’s book The Right to Remain takes readers down the rabbit hole in this gripping story about a man who is found murdered in his kitchen. Criminal defense attorney Jack Swyteck is back at it. This time, he is defending a man named Elliot, the lead suspect in the above-mentioned murder case. The only problem is that Elliot is not the model client. He has secrets. Big ones. Ones that he doesn’t even want his lawyer to know. However, these secrets might be the only things that can get Elliot off the hook.

This was not my first Grippando book, and I love his Jack Swyteck character. The Right to Remain was one of those books that had a fantastic storyline but took really long to get to the conclusion. The twists were unexpected and well-placed. One of the only issues I had was that Jack’s wife, who also appears in other books, was very unlikeable in this one. Her bold behavior didn’t complement Jack’s. Instead, it emasculated him, which I did not like. Overall, this was an enjoyable read that I would recommend to readers who enjoy courtroom drama and suspenseful plots.
